Cowboy Book
The Will James Cowboy Book
In 1938, Charles Scribner's Sons published a limited number of The Will James Cowboy Book as a supplemental reader for school children in Texas. We are pleased to make this rare book available for the first time to the general public as part of the Tumbleweed Series of Will James reprints. Some of Will James' best short stories including such favorites as “Tom and Jerry” from All in the Day's Riding and “A Range Colt” from Smoky, the Cowhorse, are collected in this volume, along with instructions on how to read brands.
This collectors' item includes some published pen-and-ink artwork. Look closely ... it resembles the pencil drawings that appeared in James' earlier books but it's not the same. Look-See with Uncle Bill
Look-See with Uncle Bill
After a dreary winter in the city, Kip and Scootie are primed for action, and their adventures pile up in this fast-paced novel. Barely an hour after arriving on the train for another summer out west, the youngsters gallop onto the open range to help their Uncles Frank and Bill drive a herd of bulls to the ranch. Along the way, a bolt of lightning incinerates a pine tree and scatters the herd. Kip gets lost with six of the bulls, and Uncle Bill gets swept away while crossing a raging creek. First published in 1938, Look-See with Uncle Bill is the third book in the trilogy that chronicles the adventures of Kip and Scottie on the Five Barb Ranch.

Cowboy in the Making
Cowboy in the Making
is the sixteenth title in the Tumbleweed Series of Will James reprints. First published in 1937, Cowboy in the Making is a timeless coming-of-age story that shows how life experiences develop character. Will James' s storytelling and his 25 pen and ink drawings and 4 color paintings capture a boy's view of the west at the turn of the twentieth century.
Billy is orphaned at the age of four when a steer gores his father. A year later, Billy decides to leave his home ranch and strikes out across the land with Bopy, an old French Canadian trapper. Bopy doesn't speak English very well, but they develop a strong friendship as they gallop across the plains, over mountains, and through the Canadian north country. While Bopy is busy prospecting and trapping, Billy spends his time drawing horses, roping with cowboys, and playing with his pet wolves. Through his adventures, Billy learns that he can weather most anything life throws at him, including a nosy grizzly bear.

was first published in 1938. Flint Spears captures the terror and triumph of the rodeo circuit from its beginnings. Will James's prose and 31 pen and ink drawings place you in the stands cheering the flawless bronc riders and booing all those cowboys and cowgirls that “grab leather”. After reading Flint Spears and looking at the 21 black and white photographs, you'll need to brush the dust off your chaps.
